We write to be read. We gather our thoughts, research, write, and rewrite until we present a topic in the format of choice. Whether it be an informative article or an inspirational poem, we labor over a work to present it to the public.
A book, article, or poem goes nowhere without an avenue to our readership. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, I spoke to audiences across the country. From the year 2000 until then, I presented on the topics of mentoring, prayer, spirituality, the Virgin Mary, and caregiving. Books Iβd written on these topics were either sold or given to listeners in my audiences.
When speaking at memory care homes to family and professional caregivers, the homes purchased books in advance and gifted them to attendees. As an author, this option couldnβt have been better. I didnβt have to transport books to and from or handle money, book sales were excellent, and I was paid to speak.
In 2020, the presentations were canceled due to COVID prevention. Ironically, that summer, I also suffered an undefined medical event that damaged my vocal cords and esophagus and caused fatigue and some attention deficit. It is now difficult for me to speak for any length of time and also keep my focus when speaking. For these reasons, I no longer accept offers for presentations.
This has resulted in significantly fewer opportunities to market my books. Iβm limited to online campaigns, promotion through this blog, and brief interviews. Iβm grateful to have had one such interview recently on Catholic Radio via YouTube.
The Very Reverend Greg Sakowicz and Mark Teresi are excellent hosts and compassionate and thoughtful men. They prompted discussions on caregiving and three of my more recent books.
Here is the link to that interview.
