Poem–First Harvest. First Dates

First Harvest. First Dates

The abundance and excitement
of spring’s first harvest are much like
the most memorable first dates.

With a little help from the gods,
time, effort, and expense pay off
in ways that dive deep inside us.

An organic relationship
gradually develops, and
satisfies our deepest desires.

This time of year, simplest is best, isn’t it? Love to pick a few leaves of lettuce, some radish thinnings perhaps, a few fresh herbs, and a touch of lemon juice and there you go!

This is a beautifully simple yet deeply resonant piece of writing.

The comparison between first harvest and first dates is especially elegant — it captures that shared feeling of anticipation, effort, vulnerability, and quiet hope that comes before something meaningful begins. The way you connect nature’s cycles with human relationships feels natural and poetic, almost like love itself is part of the seasonal rhythm of life.
