    Beautiful 🌺

  2. Monkey’s Tale

    I hope she’s okay 😊

    1. Mary K. Doyle

Hahaha. I actually haven’t ever seen a butterfly hit the window, Maggie. This was a nod to a beautiful friend who liked to tease about how harsh her native language (German) is to other languages.

      1. Monkey’s Tale

        🤣🤣

      2. Terry Tracht

        Hello there

  4. KC

    Good. 🙂

  5. Kevin

I love this, Mary! So creative!

    1. Mary K. Doyle

Thank you, Kevin. Not many people are getting my “joke” about the German word being harsher than the rest, but it was fun to use the word in different languages.

      1. Kevin

It is definitely a rougher sounding language. Much more edge to it than most

        1. Mary K. Doyle

          Have an awesome day, Kevin.

          1. Kevin

Thank you, Mary and you as well! 🙏

    Its sweet beautiful poem

    1. Mary K. Doyle

(Except for the ending.) Thank you for reading and commenting. All the best to you.

  9. Hermosa

Awwww. Me realizing Mariposa means Butterfly in Spanish 😌 I have heard that word a handful of times.

    1. Mary K. Doyle

The Spanish word is so soft and lovely, very descriptive of the delicate butterfly as opposed to the somewhat harsh German.

      1. Hermosa

I do not understand German at all, so I couldn’t get the joke. 😹

  10. Carol anne

amazing Mary, such wonderful poetry! 🙂 🦋💚💚

Thank you, Dawn. Have a great day.

  12. Void

That actually was beautiful until I burst out laughing, thank you 😅

    1. Mary K. Doyle

I’m glad you got the joke. I had a lovely friend from Germany who compared German with other languages pointing out how it could be harsh.

  13. Nancy Homlitas

Love this, but poor German butterfly! 🙂

    1. Mary K. Doyle

Hahaha. Just a little tease about the German language. Thank you for commenting, my friend.

  14. Adarsh G

Butterfly wonder consists of the world in her Mary 💜

  15. Stephanie

    Ouch!

    1. Mary K. Doyle

      LOL!

      1. Stephanie

🙂 It was a cute turn, Mary!

  16. Dawna

Beautiful. Is the purple flower the one butterfly is sitting on, is it the same purple flower that my hummingbird you sent me is trying to get some yummies from?

My two favorite things, well three actually. Butterflies, hummingbirds and purple.

    1. Mary K. Doyle

Yes, the purple flowers bloom on the butterfly bush. Butterflies and hummingbirds love it. However, I don’t have many blooms at the moment.

      1. Dawna

ahhh, nice. I’m sure you enjoy being able to sit and watch those amazing creatures enjoy your butterfly bush. I bet you can’t wait for it to bloom again, in the spring perhaps?

        1. Mary K. Doyle

It should keep blooming until it freezes, but it is slower right now. Maybe because we haven’t had much rain. We did have rain yesterday, so here’s hoping.

          1. Dawna

Fingers crossed you get some rain.

          2. Terry Tracht

            Hello

          3. Dawna

Hi… it’s nice to meet you and where are you from

          5. Mary K. Doyle

I’m in the Midwest of the USA. Where are you located.

          6. Mary K. Doyle

I don’t know who put that Hello in there. LOL.

          7. Dawna

I saw the name, but can’t find it now.

  17. Pooja G

The German one is so harsh haha. Loved the poem.

    1. Mary K. Doyle

Thank you, Pooja. Got to be playful sometimes.

      1. Pooja G

        Haha true. You’re very welcome.

  22. Drops of Ink

This is very lovely. Poor butterfly though.

    1. Mary K. Doyle

Al little silly ending. Just because. We have to keep things interesting, don’t we, Phoebe?

      1. Drops of Ink

        Indeed we do, Mary. 😉😘

  23. arlene

Seems that German is a gard language.🥰

    1. Mary K. Doyle

Butterfly is typically a soft word in most languages. How is it in yours? Is that Tagalog?

      1. arlene

That should be hard instead of gard. In Tagalog, we say paru-paru.🥰

        1. Mary K. Doyle

That sounds pretty–soft like a butterfly. Thank you, Arlene.

  24. johnlmalone

I like this Mary: it’s cleverly crafted and that German word has a brutal sound —

    1. Mary K. Doyle

Thanks, John. Glad you got my little joke. English is a Germanic language, so we actually have many similarities, but I thought it was fun to look at the softness of the word butterfly in most languages. Have the very best day!

  25. navasolanature

So many ways to describe a butterfly. Am intrigued by the meanings in different languages. Beautiful images until the dramatic ending makes us think! Very clever poem.

    1. Mary K. Doyle

Thank you. The meaning is the same. It’s “butterfly” in each language. It was a tease for German and its typically harsher sound compared to the other languages. I appreciate you reading and commenting. So good to see you here.

  26. Rebecca Cuningham

Aha, looks like you are seeing them in your neighborhood. Fantastic!

  27. restlessjo

You and Rebecca, sharing butterfly beauty.

    1. Terry Tracht

      Hello

  40. kagould17

Nice poem Mary. I can’t wait for butterfly weather to return. Allan

  41. Mary K. Doyle

Allen, this was a nod to a German friend, Irene, who made me laugh with her jokes about the harshness of the German language–and so many other things. I was missing her, and writing something that made me laugh, reminded me of the happiness she brought to this world.
