Poem–Nature’s Visits

Nature’s Visits

The squirrel who cries
when it can’t get into the birdseed.

The hummingbird who greets me
each morning while I work on my laptop.

The butterfly who rests on my chest
while I water the garden.

The family dog who watched over me
when I was too sick to get off the couch.

The whale who rolled on it’s side
to peer deeply into my soul.

Blessings from nature
are often only for our eyes.

Encounters are too brief
to freeze in time with a photo.

These gifts are grace-filled moments
preserved only in our memories.

*Humpback whale tails can measure up to 15 feet (5 meters) from tip to tip.

    So beautiful words.

    1. Mary K. Doyle

Thank you, Vermavkv. Have a wonderful evening.

  4. Mid-Life Mama

The beauty of this poem is that it captures the grace-filled “gifts” you currently receive and have received in the past so they live on forever in your written words. Amazing photo. MLM

    1. Mary K. Doyle

Thank you, MLM. That photo was taken on a whale watch. I’d love to see the whales again.

  5. Monkey’s Tale

I love this. Nature and wildlife add so much to our lives, and we easily take them for granted. Maggie

    1. Mary K. Doyle

Thank you, Maggie. I appreciate your comment!

  6. Dawn Pisturino

We live in a rural area and host a multitude of wildlife on our property. We’ve developed very close relationships with some of our doves, coyotes, and chipmunks. This experience has been priceless, and I would not give it up for any amount of money.

    1. Akhtar Munir

Living in harmony with wildlife is a gift! Your relationships with nature sound truly special.

    2. Mary K. Doyle

How fabulous, Dawn. I think you must live in heaven.

  7. Looking for the Light

I love whales and would love to go on an expedition to study them. Not a long one but to see them and to dive with then. When they die we are in very bad shape. 🙂

    1. Mary K. Doyle

I remember one naturalist on a whale boat reminding us that we were not going on a “whale show.” There are trips when no whale is visible. Some of it is luck.

      1. Looking for the Light

Yes, the whales have to come to you. The captain may know the genral area but that doesn’t arrsure a sighting. That’s one of the things that makes it so much fun.

  8. Dorothy’s New Vintage Kitchen

    1. Mary K. Doyle

Thank you, Jean. Whale watching was an incredible experience. I was alone on the side of the boat watching the whale underwater when it rolled over and stared through me. It literally took my breath eye. It’s giant eye saw through me straight to my soul.

      1. jeanvivace

I can imagine that you will never forget that moment. You also succeeded to get the photo. Nature and all in it. is so beautiful.

    1. Mary K. Doyle

Thank you, Pooja. I’m no longer receiving emails when new posts are posted by bloggers. Are you experiencing this?

      1. Pooja G

You’re very welcome. No, I’m not having that issue. Did you check your spam on your email as well as your settings on WordPress?

        1. Mary K. Doyle

A few weeks ago, everything went to spam. That is not the issue now. I’m sure I am missing something in settings, just now certain what that is. Thank you for helping me, Pooja. I appreciate you taking the time to assist me.

          1. Pooja G

          5. Pooja G

Yeah, it takes forever to get things fixed through WordPress. I’m glad you were able to fix it and hope you’re getting your emails now.
