Elmer’s Got a Girl

BREAKING NEWS!

My friend, Sue, says there is a lid for every pot, which means there is the perfect someone for everyone. Well, friends, you’ll be happy to know that Elmer has finally found his match.

The dude did it. He got the girl, and what a girl he got. The lovely Irma took one look at Elmer, and she fell hard. You can see it in how she flutters her wings around him. She’s like a teenager in love. Elmer is her kind of guy.

You may remember that Elmer filled his house to the top, and it is bursting out the sides. I was concerned the untidiness would interfere with Elmer’s ability to attract a mate.

However, Irma appears to enjoy the coziness of the packed house. In fact, she’s added bits of leaves, feathers, and such, which is a sign that they did the deed. And after watching the two for the last several days, I know for a fact that this is true because little chirps can be heard deep in that Highrise of sticks.

If you listen closely to this recording, you’ll hear the whole family (in addition to a sparrow). The louder chirps are Mom and Dad. The little chirps in the background are the babies.

When the parents approach the house, the chorus of little ones rings loud and clear in hopes of a meal on its way.

Elmer and Irma have quite a partnership. Elmer certainly takes his role as protector seriously, and Irma is busy collecting insects and seeds to feed the chicks. She is in and out of the house while Elmer can be heard nearby sounding a warning to anyone who comes near his family. After all his efforts to have them, he’s not letting anything happen.

Elmer asked me to thank everyone for their kind words and encouragement, which he believed was helpful. He is happy that his life mission is fulfilled.

If only you could see the smile on his beak!
