Last week I introduced you to a new series on What Makes Me Happy. #1 was my family. Today, I want to talk about my home.
Everything about my home is joyful. It is less than half of the size of my last one which makes it considerably more affordable and manageable. I have kind, supportive neighbors in a peaceful neighborhood that is within walking distance of more stores than I need.
I’ve consciously made a decision to ensure the decor, furniture, and accessories are things I want around me. The wall colors are soothing, and the decor is open and uncluttered.
For example, the photo above of plates on my dining room wall represents people dear to me and important travels. There are plates from my paternal great-grandmother, both grandmothers, travels to Greece, The Netherlands, and Portugal, and special gifts from special friends.

I also have a wall of family photos including my grandparents, parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, cousins, children, and grandchildren.

Artwork on the walls includes paintings and illustrations by my son, Joseph. These illustrations are from my book on the Rosary.

I also have counted cross-stitch pieces by my boyfriend, Paul. The poem Paul stitched was a favorite of my grandfathers and also, one of mine.

Even the quilt on my bed is meaningful. This quilt was hand-stitched by me and the last quilt I could stitch by hand because of arthritis pain.
The point is that everywhere I look is comforting and significant. I don’t have unwanted clutter or clothes that are uncomfortable or unflattering. Every item and color in my home makes me happy.
