Chicagoland endures long, dreary winter months. But, come spring, we are rewarded for our patience with amazing varieties as the world around us comes alive with a vibrant renewal.

I recently walked through Cantigny Garden in Wheaton, Illinois. The weather was perfect, the cloudless sky was bright blue, the sun shined brighter than I’ve seen it since last summer, and oh, my goodness, I wish I could share the fragrance of magnolia that floated in the gentle breezes. It was heavenly.

The day was a treat for the senses.

Hyacinths also were spreading their sweet aroma.

Flowers of every color were on display.

The Garden was alive with blossoms.

Even the tulips were in bloom, which seemed earlier than usual.

Hellebores were showing off their color variations, as well.

This one is called Helleborus ‘Welliver’ Ivory Prince Christmas Rose. The flowers were so perfect, they didn’t look real.

And aren’t these beauties special? We rarely see such a deep, dusty purple flower.

Perhaps, we appreciate the sunshine and plant revival so much because we don’t have it all of the time. Spring is a special treat we fully enjoy.

May this sampling of our early April blooms bring you joy.
