Poem/Cinquain–Lunchtime at the River

Have you ever written a poem called Cinquain? It has a fun rhythm to work with–2, 4, 6, 8, 2. Try one and let me know what you think about this poetic form. Following is one of mine.

Lunchtime at the River

Lunchtime
at the river.
Fresh fish in the belly.
Sunshine and water in the soul.
Fulfilled.

It all fits beautifully. I never know with poetry where to start. The beginning, I guess.

Yep. No real rules in poetry, Jo.

It seems full of rules to me, Mary, but breaking them is obviously not an issue 🤗🩷

        1. Mary K. Doyle

Nope. Rules are flexible. I like to read the poem out loud to see how it sounds. Actually, I read everything I write out loud before publishing. I can hear stumbles that I can’t see. Thank you for your presence, Jo.
