At the beginning of each new year, we can’t know exactly how it will unfold. We have plans that change and unexpected events that arise. It could be our best year yet, even if not everything is perfect.
At the dawn of 2023, I had no inclination that an aunt would suffer a debilitating stroke and some friends would leave the world of the living. We also watched in horror as a ravaging fire swallowed Lahaina, Maui, a former favorite travel destination for me and my husband. In addition, the war in the Middle East took many innocent lives on both sides and continues to do so.
But I also had no idea about the new friends I’d make, old friends who’d grow closer, how beautifully my new book would look once published, or that I’d get those family photos I’d wanted. Other surprises included a trip to Greece with a high school friend and my Godfather’s visit.
No matter the ebb and tide of joys and troubles, my goal is to remain hopeful, happy, and grateful, and find inner moments of peace. The more we can do this for ourselves, the more we can help others feel the same way. Our positivity is contagious.
May 2024 be a year of blessings, peace, and justice for you and throughout our fascinating world.
